here's the Winston Wagner Photon fuzz, this is one of the ones i built for dick wagner, with the help of my son doing the assembly work, or most of it.
it's loosely based on the eki fuzz kit you can still find online for 9.95 or so.

http://www.abra-electronics.com/products/EKI-2026-Fuzz-Box-Kit.html

you can even buy that kit and modify the board into one of these, which is what we did... this one was worked up by me and my son john winston, hence the wwp moniker. had to call it something. ;)

i added this to my pedalboard, first in line BEFORE my fuzzface, the interplay between the two is pretty hip IMHO.

check it out, let me know what ya think...
stuff that's circled is optional or can be different values for slightly different effects.

it's a si/ge hybrid. different transistors may need slightly different values.

the original pot  is just the
balls control, the tone control has an interesting notch around 9.00 or so where it acts almost as a volume control, i think from phase cancellation...it's kinda a presence control i think as wired.
the 1k pot on e of q1 can be a trimmer or a board mounted pot or a fixed resistor,  anywhere from directly grounded up to about 2.2k or so, the lower the resistance, the more gain.
if mounted on control panel, may wanna add 47-100k resistance to ground in line with bottom of pot.
10k trimmer sounds good anywhere between about 3.9k and 6.8k... i like the trimmer as a variable resistor there, it seems to subtly affect the sustain of the thing as the fuzz blooms.

or maybe it was all that acid when i was a....

you can just put a 10k resistor to ground in place of the 50k output pot, and adjust your balls, gain, and tone pots.... you really don't need it...well, *I* don't. but you may like it there. 10 k is ok too, but 50k seems to sweep a little better.

it's got chicklets for the input and output caps. i like the switch to revoice to different guitars... i find a smaller cap sounds better with humbuckers, and a larger one sounds better with single coils... and sometimes a big ol' input cap gives ya a big wooly fuzz.

original output cap was 10n, which is way too small for a fuzz imho. i bumped that muthafunka up to 470n. now it's a FUZZ...

the snubber on e-b of q2 can be anywhere from 10-120p. see what sounds best to you. a subtle cut here can really make this thing quieter, and sound great.

anyways... please let me know what ya think!

what does it sound like? to my ear, it's real smooth and buttery, with a good sustain. you can sweep the tone control from muted to harsh.
very reminiscent to my ear of a nice brown fender or jcm800...not too fizzy, and cleans up well with volume tweaks, without getting overly bright.
you can dial in from mild overdrive to fuzz, all the controls (except the volume) are highly interactive in the circuit. it's not a superfuzz, it's not a tonebender,
i think it's more in the fuzzface school tonally. with the balls and gain dimed, turning the guitar down slightly will make the distortion a little brighter without losing much volume
so you can really make it cut thru the mix right from your guitar. i likes it. hope you do too.

if you try to sell this , it's your karma. you can run, but you can't outrun karma, and you will just die tired. ;)

seriously. build one for you. build 10 for your friends. more than that, and you're scum. ;)
rip off your own circuit!!  :icon_mrgreen:

as always... standing on the shoulders of giants.... i'm one of the 10,000 monkeys with 10,000 typewriters shorting sh*t together til it sounds good to me... ;)

peace out

jimi

look for a stupid pedal trick of this today....soon as my girl goes out.

i think you'll be surprised how good such a simple fuzz can sound.

that said, mine does NOT have a master volume on it, i like the boost i get just kicking it on, and i can dial in the volume between the gain and tone controls.

stay tuned... lol...

stupid pedal trick, as promised... super special scary paranoid outside edition... lol

phat-ass hippy, 66 firebird, WWP fuzz, princeton mutation. nice sounding fuzz. phat. almost muffish imo.

if ya likes it build one. hell, build me one. ;)

rock on....
