I recently aquired one of these as a gift from a friend.  When I first got the pedal it was a mess.  After replacing the caps and cleaning the Pot it is now completely silent and stable.  The overall tone when in volume mode has alot of bass and not alot of highs.  I am assuming that one of the RC branches is not very modern.  Does anyone have experience with this pedal.

you have to have the correct pot to make the volume function work correctly on a BG2. what pot is in yours?

the originals were a modded rev log 25k centralab, long out of production. they commonly measure 30k, so subbing a modern 25k does not work. try 50k rev log. i have them on ebay or avail from me if you PM me.

also, using a 100k with a limiting resistor is far from acceptable, tonally. the bias is thrown off , especially for the volume function ( wah suffers as well). common 100k wah pots are log, not rev log so the emphasis is in the wrong area of throw , even if the other factors weren't a problem.

to the volume function of a BG2. contrary to my earlier writings on the subject, a proper pot in a properly biased and working boomer makes the volume function a wonderful thing. it gives a very slight mid boost at toe down, with a nice gradual sweep. they will not go full silent ( heel down) under any circumstance that i have found however. this would require riding the pot full out to its internal stops, not good.

It has an inductor and the volume function works well.  I cleaned the original 25k pot and after replacing the caps all the noise and hiss went away.  Its actually very stable and functioning well, it's just puts out a lot of bass frequency.  I will try to post the schematic..

Assuming your caps are all correct within original specs, the culprit might be your q1 biased sort of hot. How does the wah part sound?

If you can live with a little less bass and gain inthe wah tone ,try raising the resistor from  q1 emitter to ground approx 20 to 30 percent.

As you can tell from the clip, the volume pedal tone is not too different from the bypassed tone in my setup. A little mid boost, a wee bit more bass.
