Hey Folks.

Someone may have already done this, if not here you go.

You can get 3 for $0.45 shipped

I just ordered 30 for $4.50 Shipped

You should be able to order from this link if you wish.
Then you can buy J201s from Mouser or other typical places in reasonable quantity and not have to worry about "fakes".

I was thinking of setting them on a 18 pin socket DIP package.. Double sided 6-PACK like this

Here is a dual package... .75 cents for 3

Doesn't matter what you did to get it... If it sounds good, then it is good!

Seems pretty cool what would you use if for or would you design the boards around them?

Tony.. exactly!

Obviously these are not gonna fit any current designs that I am aware of but if somebody is creative they could work them into their designs, especially if they are gonna go double sided. Then again, if somebody was creating a board they could just put these right on the board and not have to make all these little adapter boards... So, I am not really sure there is much use for them?

Mount them upside down and it would confuse somebody if they were trying to reverse engineer your work and they saw all of these little purple IC's all over the board :icon_mrgreen:

I order 100 SMD J201s from mouser not long ago, and making the adapter board on vero was a PITA, although it worked. So this is more for my convenience. Although I'm making most of my board now, however I'm adding the extra holes for through hole or SMD Jfets

Yeah, I agree it is a big pain in the @ss but, it's an even bigger pain in the @ss to try and figure out what's wrong when your J201's are all wildly out of spec and having to test and sort them all! The SMD j201's are very good and almost all match! I etched a whole sheet of 100 adapters on that real thin black pcb that I got from abcfab on ebay. I just pulled out the reel of j201's and dumped them on the board and started soldering away.. Went pretty quickly actually! I figured I would make a bunch so I don't have to do it again for a while! The black pcb is really thin (.030 thick) so, I was able to cut them apart easily with some scissors after I was done soldering. They cut apart especially easy since where I cut them the copper has been etched away... First I cut them into strips and then I cut each individual one. I really like to cut them apart after I have soldered them all rather than cutting them first and then soldering. I even drill the little holes before I cut them apart! Much much easier!

Here's the board I use

Since I started using OSH Park I can really get crazy with pcb layouts so I don't see myself using these adapters much anymore except for test boards and bread board etc..

OSH park is an addiction that I just got hooked on.  This practice amp I'm working on its becoming a pain though. I always get stuck in a place where I either need to waste alot of space or can't fit the final part of the circuit.

J0K3RX,
Do you mind sharing your PNP layout that you self etched?  I need to practice some more SMD soldering and doing a lot of these seems like it would help tune up some skills.
Thanks,

Thanks Nick, I ordered up 30 too

No thank you sir, for being one of the reasons I got into all this. Love your blog.

Update my board came. Should be much easier and nicer than my VERO  adapters or etched adapters

So what is the variability of the SMD J201's?  I would expect that they would be just as variable as the through holes, but would be curious to hear what the observation is.
