Sick Teese Wah

I have a Teese RMC3.  I got it secondhand on eBay.  It worked fine for a few months, but today I plugged it in (after not using it for a few weeks), and, after working fine for about 4 minutes, it stopped working.  Turned on, instead of a wah, it has a volume-pedal effect, and adds a crapload of staticy noise.

I looked around on the inside and saw one of the connections on the output jack didn't seem to have enough solder on it, so I touched it up, but nothing changed.  Just lots of static, and normal guitar tone.  Just changes the volume.

Any ideas?

Sounds like a bad cap.  If you read RG's 'technology of wahs' article it explains all about this.

I agree-according to the article it might be a bad electro.

Should I try replacing all the electrolytic caps, then?  I don't have a working multimeter, so I don't think I can test them.

If you read the article it'll explain which one to look out for (and give you some ideas for cool mods, so I'm not just palming you off here).  Having said that, if one electrolytic has gone bad it's likely any others in there will do the same in the near future, so it's not a bad idea to replace them all.   :)

PS  I don't know anything about this particular wah.  It is an inductor wah isn't it?

I'll say what everyone else wants to say, can you trace out a schematic? :)

Hehehe  I agree! Just for the purpose of education and helping out. Of course. :o

Or... do you have a digital camera? with macro? (usually a Flower symbol on the menu)

If so take some REAL CLOSE close-up's of both sides of the board, and the wah innards as a whole... post 'em baby!

i repaired one of those once, it has a 10uf instead of the usual 4.7 uf. I don't think it's a bad cap, could be, but it's generally a bad solder. Check that one, reheat, and let me know.
PS: guys, it's just a common wah, with the usual mods done, a good inductor and pot, bc237, and caps from base to (?? can't remember think it's collector), to prevent oscillations. The pedal i'm talking about is an rcm1, from a friend of mine, maybe i can borrow it someday, and give you precise values.

It sounds like a bad connection at the inductor or the inductor is bad.

If you send your wah to Geoffrey he will get it going for ya.  He has the best customer service in the biz.

What's the advantage of using a 10uf electro instead of the usual 4.7uf?

I have a Maxon Blubberwah Crybaby Machine(or something like that, the name plate fell off :( ) and it uses a 10uF cap in place of the normal 4.7uF,aside from that the other component values are the normal wah circuit values. It's a nice sounding wah and has the LED status indicator and Fasel like inductor with a jfet(SK30) input buffer.I wonder what kind of effect this has on the sound. :?

Confused

So the other components are the same as? Vox ect..? I like the idea of cloning a million diff wahs as i do distortion pedals. I like the idea of having rebuilt one of every kind out there.--just so ill have/know a greater knowledge base of wha's.

Hi Everybody,

If you want some wah education, check out the Technology Of series at RG Keen's GEO page. You want to reverse engineer something?  Do it to someone who is dead or out of the business.  I have a wife and a handicapped son and my wahs are what keep us alive.  I don't try to ace out your job and I would expect the same courtesy from you.

Peace, Love, and Wah,

I think posting a schematic or reverse engineering would be ripe with double standards.  I removed my post with a pic of the board.

Hey Mr. Teese, can you email me with information about replacing the pot in my old Thomas Organ wah?  My email is chiblues86@aol.com

Thanks!

My statement was meant as humor/sarcasm towards the countless threads concerning ethics. Besides, I couldnt reverse engineer a bowl of ice cream if i tried. But..from what i can tell--it seemed as though the thread was really about just helping the guy fix his wah..

I know the economy sucks as it is. Every dollar counts--so keep building/selling them wahs!
