Slightly OT? Acronyms used throughout this forum...

Hi, as I am a non native english speaker, it has taken me some time to understand certain acronyms used throughout this forum, so I think it can be useful for all of us who don't speak english as our first language to clarify them for good and maybe even use them!

The obvious:

DIY: do-it-yourself

ROG: Runoff Groove (www.runoffgroove.com)  Man, it took me a couple of weeks reading ROG here and there until I discovered this great site!

GGG: General Guitar Gadgets (www.generalguitargadgets.com)  Another DIY great site!

RC filter - a single-pole filter (highpass or lowpass) created by the combination of a single resistor and capacitor

BBD - bucket brigade device (used for delays)

LSI - large-scale integration; many many transistors on a single chip, usually lotsa pins

...it's much quidker than writing out.
 We use abbreviations all the time, I have a feeling eventually there'll be a move toward a more 'keyboard friendly' language, these examples are how it may start.
 The keyboard I'm typing on was designed to be hard to type on, placeing frequently used letters in hard to get to places [there are revisions]. This is so common now, [this design leftover from the mechanical typewriter days intended to slow the typing rate so the hammers on old typewriters don't get stuck...according to the designers notes].
 Split keyboards is one thing, re-assigned keyboards exist and are faster, but the transition the designers of that keyboard hoped for never happened.
 VERY Fast is the shorthand machine, I could do 220 complex [medical terms etc.] WPM [words per minute]...best I got typing is 60WPM. A page can be filled in minutes with the Shorthand machine, I always wanted to get and program 'strokes' [keys pressed at the same time to bring word phrases or words up] into it that fit my style...they're not cheap, but a huge advantage over this thing in terms of speed and ease of use....though some editing of terms spelling etc. usually needs done at the end of a Stenographic Recording...My instructor could get 300WPM, or about as fast as a fast reader.

FET = field effect transistor
JFET = junction field effect transistor
MOSFET = metal-oxide-semiconductor field effect transistor

NPN = negative/positive/negative
PNP = positive/negative/positive
