The Tone God

I just posted a new article/effect at the site. Its a new Vanishing Point. It has 10 stages, stage selector, manual reset, sequence and random modes, and uses only two logic ICs. There is a PCB and layout availible for it as well.

You can find it here:

The Tone God's Domain

Enjoy.

Your Tone God,

Andrew

Note: The first Vanishing Point has been renamed to "The Original Vanishing Point".

You've really done homework !!!
 Neat circuits Tone God !!!
 Great Essay !!!

As usual, your engineering and description are absolutely top notch! :D 8) 8) 8) 8)

I love the article and the design!

Truley awsome... very interesting concept... these things shall be the first on my list anfter I'll get over my OD phase :)

This looks very interesting indeed, much bedtime reading!

Shall I tell you what your next assignment is? Well, perhaps an active mic splitter, that is to say a means of producing 2 isolated balanced outputs from one balanced input so that, for instance, it is possible to drive 2 separate mixers from one balanced microphone. And the second part is a piezo pickup preamp (very high impedance input) with a dual balanced output. A tall order???

Very cool!!! Instant Ooh Wah

Time to order some samples from TI....

BTW, can I use CD40106 hex Schmitt inverter gates for the oscillators?

The Tone God

Thanks to everyone for the words of encouragement and that is what they are to me. It makes me want to do more. I appreciate it. :)

The Tone God demands build report when finished!!! ;)

Mere mortals do not tell The Tone God what his/her/it's assignments are! Besides a have a list with a couple dozen items on its way. I want to get through the list then I may get in to that. Sorry. :(

Yes. In one of the earlier builds I used a CD40106. You might have to do alittle tuning mainly in the pulse detector but otherwise it should work as shown. I might even do a PCB layout for the 40106. The circuit is simple enough that it could be perf'd easily too. I ended up using the 4093 for the following reasons:

1. The 4093 seems to be the most common and easist to find schmitt triggered gate.

2. A NOR gate could be used in it's place without modification which gives more choices for parts.

3. I like to use up all the gates in a package. With an inverter I end up with two unused gates. Not a big deal though.

4. When I was playing around with the circuit earlier I tried gating the clocks. I decided the circuit shown gave the best results and I was too lazy to switch it back to the 40106.

5. I have a bunch of 4093s lying around from Wicked Switches.

I wouldn't call it instant. You still need the audio section, optocouplers, pots, etc. Its just the brains you still need the body. I suspect the Ooh Wah's logic provides a cleaner result. This has some "hackness" to it but it works and is good enough for DIYers I think.

Thanks again to everyone.

Andrew:

Nice work.  Once I finish the two projects currently on my bench, I think I will check this out.

Best regards

Tom

Thanks. I would love to get some build reports to see if any tweaking is needed for the circuit.

Good luck and feel free to ask any questions.
