Anyone know what the script/block switch actually switches?  Also is this the same as the normal phase 90 just with the switch?

YouAre

supposedly just r28. good ploy eh?

littlegreiger

Yeah and its like $50 more(list).

It switches out the feedback resistor (24K). The infamous "R28 Mod". Same mod everyone has done to the Dunlop reissues. But you get a nifty paint job to justify the rather high price.

Ironic, Eddie made the script logo Phase 90 famous. MXR added the R28 resistor so the masses could kinda emulate EVH's sound, and ruined the Phase 90. Became useless for clean tones and acoustic's.

Now they're adding the switch that DIY'ers have been doing for years, and charging a lot for that and the paint job. They could have just added the switch, and raised the price $10 bucks.

Wow- im not at all suprised..Just like Mxr's M-108 and KFK 10 band eq's. The only difference is the KFK has an extra output jack..And the difference is like 30 $$ more..I own both--and it even says so in a comparison in the booklet it comes with.

Where have you been?!

That has been my viewpoint for many years. The bottom line for most record companies/manufacturers is the dollar. I know that is a blanket statement that doesn't apply in all circumstances, but think about it - all these companies are in business to make money. Making a product or selling an album, it's a means to an end.

Torchy

Booteekers have been doing this for years ... ... ...

jimbob

I bet these companies research these threads/others/other sites/ and use that info for their own profit.

Yeesh, if they're researching these forums, and thats the best they can come up with....

I tried it on a gig. It sounded ok. Hmmm, I haven't been following the phase 90 too much. In my case with slight distortion, I liked it with the "newer" setting, not the script setting.

OTOH, I've never been much of a phase guy, I have an old Small Stone, and it's always been good enough for me. :?

I read it on another forum, but according to the people at Dunlop, the switch does more than the "R28" mod.  They called the switch "proprietary information" which they don't give out.

Fret Wire

We probably won't have to wait long to see some pics, and find out for sure.

"proprietary information"......I think that's just their way of saying, "We can't do crap, so we just steal resistor mods, and put someone famous' name on it."

Besisdes, when you put the Crybaby series under investigation, Dunlops real brilliance shows through. The difference between their Bass Crybaby, Crybaby original, and the hendrix crybaby is........two caps and one resistor. Plus a whack load of price.

RDV

Yes, but isn't it magnificent?

Yes, I admint- Damn..it is pretty. I want one just to look as.. But.. I think ill just mod an orange Phase 90 and add the stripes--wont be AS pretty but if done right, I bet would look kool.

Apparently, the word I'm reading on other forums is that the block mode sounds different (some say better, less noise) than a stock block Phase 90, and the script mode sounds different than a stock block with R28 mod.

Jeez, now I'm really tempted to get one just to trace out.

QuoteJeez, now I'm really tempted to get one just to trace out.

Maybe they're covering them in goop nowadays?!
