since i'm gonna use a toroidal transformer that produces less noise and i won't have space for too many large filter caps how can i successfully filter the power supply?puretube or aron any tips?

toneman

Torriods, because of the wound nature of the metal strips comprising the inductor,  reduce magnetic radiation which can couple into adjacent circuits.
A torroid is *still* just a transformer.
U rectify & filter in the same way.   No magic bullet here.
The main *advantage* with torriods, is , where U would normally have to
mount the "EI" pwr xfmr external, for a clean/higain preamp, to reduce
magnetic field humm, U concevablly could mount the torriod in the same
enclosure.   I say "could".  It "could" humm just as bad with poor wiring,
gnding, filtering,  etc etc.
I'd say, if its low voltage out, *use* regulators.
If it's HiV, Use good caps and mayB an inductor 2 make a PI filter.
Don't know what a PI filter is???   Try googling....

Torroids radiate about 1/8th the flux that E-I design transformers do, but toneman is dead on with the filtering.

The next question is.... can you build one of these in the space you have? ...or at least a smaller version for the lower current? http://www.duncanamps.com/technical/mosfet.html

Filtering should be part of the respective schematic;
(like a big cap across the rails in 9V projects!)
depends on topology, and current draw;

very good reads here, too:

Quotei won't have space for too many large filter caps

use multiple smaller caps.
