Hi! Searched google for this, but couldn't find anything. Anyone has a schematic of it?

Any ideas on how to make a compressor like this?

Thanks,
Ricardo

Tweak (heavily) a Dynacomp.  The comp in the McGuinn sig guitar is a Dynacomp derivative.

Thanks! Didn't know that and i'm quite surprised, cos I use a dynacomp but i don't like it that much with my 12string ric.

Anyway, i think i'll build the orange squeezer. Might sound good.

I heard it was based on the onboard Rickenbacker compressors...

You mean like

these being a DIY version of the onboard compressor.

Is there a project page for that?

R.G.

No, but it's not all that hard to ressurect.

Which is Dynacomp based.  At lest the one in the McGuinn sig is.  Look it up ont he Ric website yourself.

I just recently found out about the Janglebox and visited their website. I was quite impressed with the soundclips. This pedal seems to do nice things to the highend spectrum of a guitar. I figure it must be a decent product considering the list of users/endorsers. I've seen Bill Kirchen a couple of times and I get the feeling, based on his limited, almost utilitarian pedalboard, that it must be really good for a guy like him who uses next to no effects to add it to his arsenal. I'm all ears if anyone knows more about this pedal's inner workings.

Oh, it's not just dynacomp based - it's a dynacomp, saving only some messing about at the inputs. I don't recall any different component values, although I didn't work really hard on comparing.

I did a layout from the Rick page schemo to fit inside my Rick 330. Presumably it will fit others, too.

So....
(a) if you just want the "jangly" sound that presumably the compressor gives, build a dynacomp or Ross and do the component comparison.
(b) if you have a rick and want to do an onboard compressor like the pictures, I can ressurect the PCB layout. There is some tricky fitting to get it set up right for the switch and placement inside the guitar, so don't go thinking that this is just a pickguard replacement, five screws out and five in. The battery also fits inside (just like on the onboard Rick compressor), so you have to remove the pickguard periodically to replace it.

Given that, let's see a show of hands for how many have ricks and want to do this.

Hand up here too :D
Although I don't currently have a Ric 12, (my '66 fireglo ric 360 was 'liberated' from my possesion some years ago after a break in at our rehearsal place), I do own a fine Danelectro 12.
Count me in on the shenanigans!

This thread just made me realize something....

Besides being a tireless electronic genius, R.G. Keen also plays guitar! He owns a Rickenbacker.... I don't know why that seems so fascinating to me!

Abuses guitar is more like it.

Over the years I picked up the Rick, a Gibson SG, a Strat, a 12 string Vox Phantom, and a Les Paul copy. The Amps include  Thomas Vox (almost all of them... Beatle, Royal Guardsman, Buckingham, Berkeley 2 and 3, tube Berkeley, Cambridge, Pacemaker, tube Pacemaker) Fender Princeton, Fender Blues Deville.

And you know - having equipment doesn't make you play any better...
