Bipolar mu-amp / SRPP ?

Is there anyone who can help with this?
I'm thinking of a dist circuit (amplifier stage) like the minibooster/mu-amp but which brings out the compressed output chracteristic of germanium transistors. I mean the one like in Rangemasters, where you bias the tranny to the low end towards base-emitter soft-compression (silicons have harder edge). But what if you want BOTH halfs of the signal to have this? I tried putting two rangemasters after one (see -> "FAT GERMS") another with nice almost "non-fuzz" distortion results, but still you have in the end a softer half and a harder half.

I call it the "not-so-clean boost"   :icon_mrgreen:

Is that TO92 a Jfet? I guess so.
A bit like Tim Escobedo's cinnabar-things?
I thought about using two germanium BJT's but maybe it's a bit impossible. ;)

No, it's certainly possible  but you will not get much flavor from the upper transistor as Ge.  You could use a bipolar Si there if you wanted to go totally non-Fet.

What about this (based on Jfet-circuit on RG' site):

btw: what the heck is the input impedance of such a thing?

The cap between the bases could be a zener at 8.2V. That means the bases are "real" biased at 0.4V each. That would be nice for a compressed sound.

  That's what I did with the Brown Munster and Dual Starved Mu Mu designs.
  The mu amps self biasing behaviour made is appealling to voltage starved experiments, also I have gotten great results with a nice "Sag/Comp Distortion' tone [mild] with them, quite unique and does a realyy cool Mr. Fantasy rythm/lead thing.
