Hi folks,
My project started a couple of weeks ago. I built a first version with BC108 and with 470K resistors, but I wasn't fully satisfied; I didn't have enough fuzz. I started tweaking the circuit, testing some tone controls... and still couldn't get no satisfaction.
And I must say I'm quite happy with my new version.
I used:
_ 0.047uF metal films caps
_ 220pF ceramic caps
_ 500k & 100k pots.

I put two  2N2219 low gain (150hFE) transistors on my breadboard and started to tweak the resistors. I endded up with a:
_ 100K from Q1 C to +9V
_ 4M7 between Q1 B & C
_ 10k from Q2 to +9V
_ and 1M between Q2 B & C
I added a 220pF ceramic cap between Q2 B & C to tame the noises, mostly due to the 10k resistor.

I made a short clip with my digicam.

telecaster > fuzzrite > clean channel of a DSL50.

the pedal only gets noisy with my stratocaster, but so do many of my fuzzes. I have all the fuzz I wanted and it cleans up very well.

And what about the tone control I wanted to add ? Well, I realized that my Grand Laff made a nice duet with the fuzzrite. So I'm thinking it will also sound good with a clean boost.

Well that's about it.
Cheers,
Fabrice

It sounds a lot like my Buzz Box, only with extra snarl! :icon_twisted:

   FuzzTone !!!
You won't need an LED indicator to tell if THAT one is on or not...
I sounds the 'splat' of an Octave, lotsa intermodular...cool clips WarioBlast !!

I take it that you used the .047s as input and output caps, and the 500K as a volume pot?

Thanks for the sound pics. I need to learn how to do those next esp after all this time!
Pedal sounds good! Def a different flavor. I used to be in search of the perfect wah, now im on to the perfect fuzz, distortion, ect..

Great job on tweaking it!!! It's the best example I've heard of that circuit.
What schematic or layout did you work from? I've seen 3 or 4 different ones.

thx all for the kind words.

I used fuzzcentral schematic, the one with 470k resistors, TZ82 transistors, 350k and 33k pots, .05 input & output caps...

I made my own layout using stripboard. 500k pot is the tone control and 100k is volume; I reach unity gain around 1 o'clock.
I also added the usual DC plug, 1M pulldown resistor, 100nF electro cap & 1n4002 diode across rails, and led resistor on board.

Digicam is the only way I can make clips  :icon_redface:. It's not that bad sounding & it's pretty simple. Once I have uploaded the video on my computer, I use Virtualdub Mod to extract the wav.
I also did some tweaks on the wav with Cool Edit Pro, I cut the last part of the wav and added a Fade out. My town is right in the middle of the landing trajectory from an air base. A bloody plane was passing by when I recorded the video, just when I started to play the opening riff of "Sin's a good man's brother" by Grand Funk Railraod  :icon_evil:
