Suggestions for auto-wah, modulating wah??

Looking for sugestions for a not-too-difficult auto-wah/modulating wah.  Similar idea to a trem, but wah instead; in that you set the rate of the automatic "wah-wahing".  The Boss auto-wah has a setting like this if I remember right.  Any suggestions?? ???

IIRC, isn't the ROG Phozer a modulated bandpass filter?

I checked that one out, but I was looking for a "wah" sound as opposed to a phaser though.  The clips sounded like a phaser to me.

Maybe the DOD 440 Envelope Filter clone at GGG?

Not a true "auto wah", but check out the sound clip and see if that's what you're after.

This one is on my list to build.

Maybe this on http://members.shaw.ca/roma/wah-two.html  check out the running wah at the bottom of the page.

The DOD is more of Mutron III auto wah effect (envelope follower).  If my terminology is correct here, I'm looking for a LFO modulated Crybaby ckt with adjustable speed kinda thang :)  I guess my use of "auto-wah" is not technically correct.  I meant "automatic wah", as in it's being automaticaly wahed for you.

Yes, this is the kinda thing i'm after.  Thnxs!  I think I heard a clip somewhere that was using the "idiot wah" ckt, modulated  by something??

The original ROG Phozer was Tim Escobedo's Idiot Wah modulated by an LFO (I believe the one from the EA Tremolo). The schematic is still on runoffgroove.com, IIRC, but I think the link to it in the Phozer 2 article is broken. I seem to remember that I successfully guessed the filename after a few attempts, but I don't remember exactly what it was.

snoof

yep. I saw that as well, and the link takes you to homewrecker, but the phozer isn't listed...

aha!  I found the clip I was referring to on this page (idiot wah)

and the schem here...

how would one implement the LDR talked about in the description??  I've never worked with any modulation type effects before :icon_redface:

Edit:  found the old version of the phozer from archive.org  http://web.archive.org/web/20040603163912/www.runoffgroove.com/phozer.html

Go to Geofex and read R.G.'s article on wah pedals (in the FX Technology section). That should clarify things a bit. The photon filter isn't exactly what you're looking for in and of itself. You would still need an LFO to vary the resistance of the LDR, thus modulating the wah.

BTW, the old phozer schematic is available on runoffgroove.com, but the filename is simply "phozer.png," not "old-phozer.png."

Many moons ago I had an old Ibanez script logo phaser- one knob. At the time I didn't like it much because it sounded just like a wah. I wanted it to sound like a PHASER! Anyway, if anyone know what I'm talking about and has a schematic for it, that might be what you're after...
I am not responsible for your imagination.

There's a Mutron Autowah new in the very first Layouts Gallery page

Take a look at the Tremulus Lune. The LFO drives an LED. If you want to use it to drive the Photon Filter, don't bother with the input and output sections. Lune LFO + Photon Filter = :icon_idea:

The MXR Auto-Q is essentially an MXR Envelope Filter with a few bells and whistles, one of them being the capacity to mix on-board LFO control and envelope control.  It's actually a pretty neat pedal that I wouldn't mind owning if my money didn't have to go other places.  The new Guyatone Ultron pedal, reviewed in the current newsstand issue of Guitar Player is also a modulated Mutron-type pedal.  You may want to try out one or both of these at a stiore to have a better sense of what features you like or aspects you like.  My guess is that whatever you end up with as a DIY pedal, you will not be able to use a single canned PCB layout/project, so best to have a keener sense of what you want this to be able to do.

I like Tim Escobedo's "Phuncgnosis". It's an auto-wah type thing. :icon_cool:

I've got a Q-Tron, so I've got the traditional envelope-filter sounds covered so I don't need that sound.  I used to own a Boss AW-2, and that had a setting where you could set the speed of a continuously cycling wah,(footless wah) and that's what I'm after.  It looks like I have some good ideas from the posts above, I just need to implement them into something that sounds descent...

Very nice schem!!  I like how the sections are defined.  Thanks man!

I don't mean to pimp my own design and it might be a more complicated than you were looking for but my slackfilter does exactly what you want.
It's a filter with envelope or LFO control and can do LFO driven wah type sounds.
