a pretty simple question: is there any use for power transistors in effect pedals?

i don't know of any effects that use them and i wonder why... is it a voltage issue? power consumption? are they usable as clippers?

I think people have used power mosfets as clippers with some success. I tried building a fuzz face with BD439s because they've got a low HFE. It worked with some resistor changes to bias it up but it had static hiss in the background that I couldn't get rid of. Didn't spend much time on it though.

Yea, power MOSfet clippers work nicely.  Havent tried other power transistors.

I have posted a few times in the past about med power devices.

How far back do the archives go?

here is one
