Any suggestions for a first time breadboarder?

Would anyone care to suggest a good first project to breadboard?  I imagine something simple would be a good place to start but I'd also like something that has components worth swapping out so I can hear the differences.  Did that make any sense?

I've read that diodes can frequently be changed in some circuits.  So, what do you guys think would be within the realm of possibility for my first shot at breadboarding but still interesting?

Thanks!

I'd try any of the single op amp distortion/overdrives something like the tubereamer. That way you can try different diodes, different caps and even different opamps.

Hiwatt,
You could always breadboard my SparkleDRIVE layout and see if it actually works!!  :icon_idea: :icon_lol:

Great!  Thanks for the suggestions.  I think I'll go with the sparkle drive first.  MarkM has yet to stear me wrong.   :icon_mrgreen:

Well, Maybe this time I did!  :icon_redface:
The version posted there has a biasing problem combined with the blend pot and, although close to working, it still is incorrect.
However, I have a revised version in the works right now however, I'm going to etch a board and build it from the layout first before I give you guys the go-ahead on it......stay tuned!  :)

I am officially standing by.  I think maybe I'll give the Orpheum Fuzz a try.  The sound clips are EXACTLY what I want from a fuzz plus it's got a low part count and I think I can switch transistors for different sounds.
