if i wanted to bypass some dry signal around the wah to mix with the wah sound would it be as simple as a wire with pot and maybe a cap from input to output?

Jobet

Yes try that. I've done it on non-gain pedals like compressors, and it works.

On gain pedals like overdrives, the cap serves as a return path and will cause squealing (regenerative feedback).

Tell me how it goes too. I'm planning on doing this on my DS-1, but I'll be putting a FET buffer right after the input signal so that there will be no return path to cause feedback.

any suggestions on how to make a low pass filter for the bypass? it's the lows that are missing when the wah is ingaged.  i guess i need a crossover basically, but i don't know how to make one and not sure what frequency the cutoff should be at for guitar.

Is it a stock WAH?  I got more low end out of a crybaby by raising the 1.5K feedback resistor to 2.2K.

If you want a low pass, look for a Sallen-Key Low pass filter.  It is opamp based and inductor free.  Probably the lowest parts count while still being effective.  You may need to also buffer the output of your wah before the "MIX" stage.

if its a problem with bass try some of the wah mods! i cant quite remember which mods i used now but there are plenty around! i modded my crybaby so that the capacitor was selectable and put in some variable resistors worked out pretty well but im starting to decided i like it the way it was!

geofex has an article on wahs in the 'technology of' series, uh link is here http://www.geofex.com/Article_Folders/wahpedl/wahped.htm this should help you find out what components do what.

the wah is from  http://fuzzcentral.ssguitar.com/mccoy.php   i did the one with the output buffer.  i've been messin with the various mods and it's pretty tweakable but still the tone is fairly thin.  you hear a guy like trower or bonamossa or robin ford and when they kick in the wah the tone doesn't change - it just starts wha-ing, that's what i want, it seems to be quit elusive.  you don't really need to wah the lowest frequencies so i thought perhaps a bypass could give that elusive fat sound while still having the nasally wah. i have pretty limited electronics background, but can build most anything, so relying on the brainiacs here. thanks

yeah the lowpass on there would do it im not sure what frequency you would want maybe 70kHz? you could try a variable pot to find out what sound best by ear

then im guessing you could just blend the sounds together. im not sure how though you might get loading, or the blend control effecting your filter.

is there not an article on here about putting effects in parallel and mixing them together?
