Hiya,
im trying to debug/fix a Nano Small Stone for a friend of mine. hes advised that it just stopped suddently working one day (Battery lights up LED pedal works in bypass AND when engaged howeer no phase sounds with any settings...just a coloured tone)

anways decided to test it and yep what he said was true...but i decided to try it with my power supply (9V centre neg 2.1mm) and it works perfectly.
take the power supply out and plug the battery in...no work (lights are on but no phase)
plug the powersupply in whilst hte battery is still in ...no work (lights are on but no phase)
take battery out whilst power supply still connected ...no work (lights are on but no phase)

its only when you disconnect the power supply and the battery...then reconnect hte power supply back that it lights up AND has phase.

driving me nuts...hard to probe as its mostly SMD double sided board.

ive changed out hte battery snap to a better quality one but its still has the same issue?
tried 3 diffrent battery and no change.

any thoughts???
seems to be the complete opposite problem people are having on the net RE the small stone

Sounds to me like there's something faulty with the components (or the solder-joints) in the area of the PCB that deals with the power supply. I have the same pedal and  haven't had any problems with it yet.  Is the pedal new or has your friend had it since it was first issued by EHX? Could be that it's a manufacturing error too...

JohnnyC

friend says hes had it only for a few months.
and it just stopped working.

i originally thought he had a small stone (as i just repaird a small clone...the newer ones with the TB) but when he bought it over i saw it was a NANO...
SMDs (and the double sided pcb) are such a PITA

gut shots if anyone is interested.

doesnt look too bad here...

oh my...

Does the warranty still apply? IIRC the warranty is for a year, and if your friend has only had it for a few months it should still apply.

I had a similar problem with mine. With a power supply, I got a whining sound when not bypassed. It worked fine with a battery. I left it alone for a week or so, and when I plugged in a power supply it worked fine. ???

JohnnyC

im not too sure about warranty.
were in australia and he said he got it off ebay.

looking on the net...this seems to be the opposite problem to what most people with this pedal have.

took a while but got there in the end (mainly coz i was trying to squint at it late ish last night...but i am finally victorious!

...bit of a pain, but luckily my trusty multimeter came through (hugs my fluke)
ended up taking the battery positve lead to another contact point, bypassing a  lenghtly trace cut that ducked out of sight underneath the suface mounted input/output jack. im suspecting something when dodgy there from unplugging/plugging in a lead.

anyhow... this pedal actually sounds very small stoney...very ethereal sounding and almost yah yah sounding on extreme settings...and much better than the nano version of the small clone.
got an idea for a mod to do for it (on the pot) which i may try and persuade hulk into with when he come picks it up.
