Hi,

Recently I made a mod of mid-fi electronics Random Number Generator for Noisecians.

I really love screeching, unstable harsh noise.
In order to generate more noise, I added a SPDT Toggle /w center-off switch for replacing 2.2M resistor by a .01 capacitor, or simply removing.
This tweak makes 3 different texture on the top of the note.

Also added 1N60P diode in parallel, and SPDT switch (inside the enclosure, on-board) makes enable/disable it. This makes oscillation harder and happens to create some uncontrollable strange decay.

Added 2 pots, one for feedback resistor 100k linear, another for battery starve 100k linear for more instabilities.

This mod is very nice for me but sounds different from original, so I named it after RNG, called "Really Nice Guy".
I hope someone may be interested in.

Thanks for everyone, and of course tons of thanks for Doug Deeper.

Right on! Sounds very cool. I love the complete and utter destruction of tone. With great arpeggiation. Do you have a layout for this?

rousejeremy

That is awesome. It would be so fun to show up for and audition with something like this.

Hey, really nice mods! Thanks for sharing, I might build this pedal in a time.

btw... WELCOME TO THE FORUM!

Wow.

This suddenly got propelled to the top of my to-do list. It makes my Dirty Bird sound pretty tame in comparison :icon_mrgreen:

Hi soggybag, rousejeremy, Slade, glops, waltk, DC9V!
Thanks for welcoming me!
It'll be the next big engine of building another one.

Now, today I have the 3rd demo, with 1N60P turned ON. (was off in previous 2 videos)

Yes I have the layout... but I wouldn't recommend mine, because I made it quite ad-hocly. Please refine it ;)

I've watched your movie on youtube. It motivated me, thanks.

If you want to make it stabler, you may replace those parts.

i) one of 2N3904 -> BC337
Shorter decay, no persistent oscillation. Sounds much like 8-bit.

ii) 2SC1815 BL -> 2SC2240 BL
Lower noise level.

iii) C5 in the layout .01uf -> .1uf
Less screeching. Avoid producing supersonic wave, less harm to your cat.

iv) Adding some resistor in serial to feedback pot
Less oscillation in BAD or SAD mode without diode.

I did not chose those canditates but they may be better for others.

Wow! Hi Doug!
Nice to see you here and thanks a lot for giving us your outstanding ideas.
I've been inspired very much from your pedals.

By the way, a friend of mine is intrested in this one.
I'm going to brush it up and build another one for him soon.
