been messing around with switches today... ::) i was looking at some AB BOX diagrams using dpdt , and didnt find any with leds too...with a dpdt.....so i had a thought!...just the one..  :)

this should work right?....a dpdt is just 2 spdt's yes?....it works with the leds, havent tried the signal yet though!..but should be ok...i would think..

any thoughts?...

That should work, you may......Stress may have issues with the ground not being terminated and shared.. you may want to connect them all to the switch lug as a star ground.

cheers steve,  yeah i see what ya mean,

the box would be grounded  by the jack sleeves as well, so i'm guessing i may be able to maybe, leave off  ,say the input ground maybe?....hmmmmm....

surprised i havent seen this way of doing it  before!...it seems pretty obvious to do....hmmmm  maybe too obvious.........unless of course there is a good reason not too!!!???.... :-\

edit : hold that thought i have another  idea!...

cpm

the only con is that the unused output is floating, so it will propably get a hum noise

i guess thats why its better to use the whole dpdt to ground the unused output

hi carlos:

just tried this out on psu powered breadboard into an amp and it seems fine...even without an enclosure...really quiet!....hmmmm......

anyway heres another experiment while i'm here..just out of curiosity....... ::)

anyone think this would work?. :icon_mrgreen:...i know the output from pcb would be on all the time, but the input would be switched!...and the led should be on/off......hmmmm again.. ::)

EHX used to do that I believe. (definately in the russian big muff)

iccaros

I was talking about seperating signal ground from power ground and from the box

So you would have a ground for the LED's, you would then insulate the inputs and tie those grounds together in a STAR pattern..

@steve...ok, i understand ya now!..ithink...lol....cool.. :icon_redface: :icon_mrgreen:

@arnoud:  oh so it will work ok then...i thought there might be some kind of interference with both outs being actve, so to speak of  at once!...

Your design is rather cool! I agree that the unused input thing will cause issues.
Maybe 1Mohm loads at the outputs?

cheers, yeah you may be right on that!...

you mean the pcb pedal version yeah?....or both?... :)

That was my thought on the first design, though I know less about these things than most other members here  :)

I'm sure that if we just keep this thread going long enough someone more knowledgable will drop by and debunk us  :icon_cool:

Pull the Signal grounds from the switch (leaving only power) and attach them together.
a 100uf across the output jacks should catch stray noise, but you may have to check for tonal changes.
something like this

deadastronaut

ahhhh i got ya now!...cheers man.!..

so best use plastic jacks then i guess!.... :icon_cool:

If I'm not to wildly mistaken, those caps on the output jacks would certainly change the tone, like anything but DC would be lost.

And I guess it would be far easier to isolate power ground than signal ground from the chassis. We all use, and love, those plastic DC jacks.

@ 100uf I do not hear a difference, as the roll off is out of range but its up to testing and they can most likely be dropped, the caps are just for stray noise, I do this to old single coil strats to get rid if hum,
shielded wire would be better. length of cable and other factors would cause this to change how effects tone, so Its just a thought.

you can separate either signal or power from the box, but the ideal is that power can and does cause noise, so lets not connect it to the signal where it is not needed for any reason. if the box is connected to power ground then it becomes an RF shield, while connected to just signal ground it becomes an antenna, just my thoughts

you could also..... hold on..... add a buffer and filtering??  .... I'll duck out of the way of tossed shoe's  :icon_mrgreen:

Note: you do not have to use plastic jacks, a little heat shrink can do the job nicely with plastic washers.

Just my thoughts, according to my wife I have been wrong today, and I will be wrong again..
