A press in the top center of the screen when the toolbar is hidden will bring up the Quick Panel.
The Quick Panel allows you to Start/Stop the Music Player, Start/Stop the recorder, Link the currently playing song to the current PDF file and to lock the page. Once the page is locked, you cannot turn past the current page with a tap. You can still zoom in and out. Use this mode when you want to show someone something on your iPad on the current page without having them accidentally turn a page. You can also turn Set List Mode on and off here. MIDI Send – when off, will disable sending of MIDI messages. Music Picker will allow you to go directly to the music picker window which you can use to play songs. You can also acces the Recently Loaded songs list here as well.

Manually creating indexes for large PDF files

Manually creating indexes for large PDF files

Indexes allow you to create a file containing a list of titles and pages for a specific document. Think of it as a table of contents that you can create for a large PDF book. At this time unrealBook doesn’t have an interface for creating this, but you can use a spreadsheet application to create this file. To create an index, type in the name of the song, the document name and the page number in a spreadsheet.

1. Create a spreadsheet with the index information – OpenOffice or LibreOffice REQUIRED (free)

Type in the name of the song, the document name and the page number in a spreadsheet.

format: name of song, myPDF.pdf, pageNumber

Repeat this for every song in the PDF.
Once you are finished, export your spreadsheet as a .csv file. This file should be comma delimited and should not have a text delimiter (no quotes).
Note: Make sure that the name of the pdf is case sensitive correct. In addition, make sure that it has .pdf at the end of the name. Do not put spaces before or after the filename. You must have a matching .pdf file in the documents folder for the index to reference.

You can also specify the number of pages of a song. This will allow set lists to turn through correctly when an index is added to a set list. To format your .csv correctly, create a .csv with the following format:

name of song, myPDF.pdf, pageNumber, numberOfPages
name of song2,myPDF.pdf,pageNumber, numberOfPages

OpenOffice.org or LibreOffice.org are REQUIRED for creating index files.

2. Export as csv

Make sure that there is no text delimiter and that the field delimiter is a comma. IMPORTANT!!!! The file character set should be UTF-8.

3. Copy the .csv file into the unrealBook documents folder

Once the .csv file has been created, copy it into the unrealBook documents folder like any other PDF. You can then pull down on the All Indexes list to rebuild the list (which will read all .csv files).

Access your indexes in the Songs menu

Creating Lists for subsets of songs

Creating Lists for subsets of songs

Lists are a way of displaying a subset of all the charts you have. For example if you are playing with a Jazz band, you might want to only see charts that pertain to that Jazz band. Lists are similar to set lists, except they are in the Songs menu. In addition, they are sorted and indexed automatically. When you search through a list, only the songs in the list are searched

Choose Add List… from the Songs menu

Add songs into a list using the -> buttons

Use the -> buttons to add songs to your list. You can also use the search icon to add files to the list. Press Save List after you are done.

Turn a set list into a list

You can use the Add Set List To Songs Menu command to turn the current set list into a list that you can access from the Songs menu.

Access your saved lists in the Songs menu

Saved lists appear in the Songs menu after the Indexes entry. Choose any list and select a song to display in unrealBook.

Advanced- Use Dropbox.com to turn a folder hierarchy into lists

You can use DropBox.com to organize a directory that contains folders arranged exactly as you want them to appear in unrealBook. Name the folders exactly as you want them to appear and put pdf files in the folders. Choose Action->Remote Files navigate to your folder that contains the folder hierarchy on DropBox.com. Once the folder is current, press the Build Lists button. Your lists will automatically be created. Any existing lists with the same names are overwritten. Note that nested folders are not allowed and files are not copied from the folders. This is just a quick and easy way to create lists.
