Title: Source for knobs like these, but smaller?
Post by: CodeMonk on November 30, 2012, 03:21:52 AM
While on a hunt for some knobs that weren't the "run of the mill" types you get from the usually online stores, including ebay, I ran across these:
(Click pic for ebay page)
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v494/CodeMonk/Knobs/Knob_003.gif) (http://www.ebay.com/itm/10pcs-Vintage-Copper-look-Knob-Guitar-Boss-Pedal-effects-1-4-Potentiometer-/120980796340?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item1c2b0473b4)

These would be perfect for my current project.
Unfortunately, they are 19mm in diameter, which is to large. I need something around 15mm in diameter.
17mm may work, but that is getting close to the borderline for me.
I have emailed the seller, but they don't have anything smaller than that.
They also have that style in a chicken head knob for anyone that may be interested.

Has anyone seen anything similar to this, but in a smaller size?
(A vintage looking metallic/copper/gold looking kind of style knob?)
I have looked on ebay (but I'm sure I am missing several thousand knobs that may be there and have checked the links on the beavis audio page as well, to no avail.

Oh, and they will be for round shaft pots, so a set screw would be preferred.
But press fit is not out of the question

And while searching here I followed a link to some called "sheep nose" knobs.
Those would be awesome, but alas, a google search of "sheep nose knobs" came up empty :(

Thanks.

I do plan on using them on at least one other project I have in the works.
I really think they look pretty cool.

I have seen a technique done on other things that give that kind of look, can't remember exactly how it was done, but I'm sure there are soem pages out there detailing it.
Although, adding yet another step to a build that isn't critical to its performance/reliability/etc., well....I dunno.

Well, at least I helped someone find something they liked.

It kinda looks like a Davies-style knob with woodstain on it?

Yup, sure does. Like these : http://www.smallbearelec.com/servlet/Detail?no=1225

While these knobs here don't look like what I am looking for, I do like them: http://www.smallbearelec.com/servlet/Detail?no=782
Those are somewhere around "Plan C" or "D" or something. They cost a bit more than I want to spend ATM.

I'm thinking about going for these : http://www.smallbearelec.com/servlet/Detail?no=1189
Then doing the "Vintage" treatment to them.

Is there a Davies #1500 style but with an outer diameter 17mm or less?

And if these came in gold, I would probably give the "vintage" treatment to them.

Either way, I guess I've got my work cut out for me,

This might save you hours of a useless search for something that might not exist.

You can get close with this:

Yeah, I'm chasing unicorns here I guess.

But thanks for those links.
