Title: What happens when you put higher hfe transistors in the fuzz factory?
Post by: nightendday on December 01, 2012, 02:01:11 AM
I have a few transistors laying around and a fuzz factory board built up other than transistors, they're all also Si rather than Ge. Will this just sound like thousands of howler monkeys?

No, it still sounds like a fuzz factory.
The design pretty much eliminates the effects that give a Ge fuzz its unique tone, so it sounds the same even if you use something like a 2N3906. The only issues you may have is if you're using really high gain stuff it might be prone to 'unwanted' oscillation.

I made it with a 3904 and 2 3906. It's most definitely different than my Ge ff, but it's still awesome, and much meaner.

+1

a 100% si sounds very different than the stock version...or else zvex prob would've done it that way for cost effectiveness.

You like it? So you went with Si transistors?

Care to post a clip?

It has been my experience that wether you use Si or Ge it still sounds like a FuzzFactory.
