Title: TS7 - Mod help needed!
Post by: AlanR on May 05, 2013, 12:24:11 AM
First time poster. I've just recently started modding some pedals so I apologize in advance if I don't know the correct terms or if I need to ask for things layed out for me in the simplest of terms.

I've got an Ibanez TS7 that I modded with the Monte Allums kit. It's a great kit and I really liked how it opened up the pedal.

I also added a few other modifications that I found by surfing through forums. Most likely this one.

The mods I added in addition to the Monte Allums mods were

D3 -I swapped out the stock diode for 1N4002 diode
D4 -I swapped the stock diode for a red LED

I also swapped out two resistors.

R27 - I changed to 22kohm carbon film resistor

R85 - I changed to 3.3kohm carbon film resistor

I am pretty happy with what this has done for the pedal. It isn't quite as dirty as a typical tubescreamer. It is much more of a clean boost pedal. I am tempted to swap out the resistors and get a little bit more dirt back in the signal but I think I am pretty happy with it as it is.

What I would really like to do is Mod the HOT side of the switch to take out a little bit of the volume boost that it adds. Not a lot. But as it is it is quite a drastic jump.

I would also like to run the HOT switch off of an added footswitch. The casing is so small I would have to make it an external switch or rehouse the pedal. I was hoping to get some thoughts on the best thing to do here and How to do it.

Thanks!

Hi welcome to the forum :)

What does the hot switch do, is it one of the mods? Without knowing what it does it's hard to help.

There's a TS7 schematic here if it helps explaining the switch http://elektrotanya.com/PREVIEWS/63463243/23432455/ibanez/ibanez_ts7.pdf_1.png (http://elektrotanya.com/PREVIEWS/63463243/23432455/ibanez/ibanez_ts7.pdf_1.png)

The Hot switch is standard on this pedal. It takes it from The stock TS mode and a gainier more boosted setting.

Thanks for the schematic too. Sadly I have No clue how to read it.
I will Google some How To info and see if I can figure it out

This one might be a bit easier to work with:

It seems like you can "tame" the Hot Switch side by replacing C43 (.47uf) with a .22uf cap. It looks like added capacitance in series with C31 (which will lessen the capacitance) increases the gain or volume.

As far as an external footswitch: You should get your hands on a meter to figure out the configuration so you can bypass the existing switch.
