Title: Hot Tubes produce just mild overdrive
Post by: yeeshkul on November 25, 2013, 07:14:51 AM
Hi guys, i've received a vintage Hot Tubes unit, and the maximum overdrive it can do is about as much as Tubescreamer.
Is that correct? I thought Hot Tubes can get fuzzy...

Nope.  They excel at producing Keith Richards grunt, and are probably suitable for "British blues", but fuzz - unless extracted from an amp being pushed hard - is not in their nature.

When he plays LP the sound is quite distorted. It must be the pickups (from 5:30 on).

I breadboarded something similar (madbean Snarkdoodle) and immediately wanted more.  Tore that out and started a Runoffgroove Double D.  Much more hotness.
