Title: Footswitch Design
Post by: mnkey on February 21, 2014, 02:14:34 PM
Hi,

I want to develop a tap-tempo footswitch which houses one switch with both the functionality of a Digitech FS3X "Up" switch (TRS) and two standard NO outputs. Can anyone with experience of Digitech-style footswitches advise me as to whether it is possible to have these two types of output on a single switch? Does one of the TRS lines carry a current which may cause problems with the pedals at the NO outputs?

Here is the schematic for the Digitech FS3X.

I only desire to use the "Up" switch. Would I simply wire the Up switch with the two diodes as instructed and ignore the remaining switches, then wire additional NO outputs in parallel?

Hi mnkey, welcome to the forum.

But what's the FS3x controlling? A Jamman? If so...

I guess I would start by metering the tip and ring for voltage from the Jamman.
Then I would try triggering the UP by shorting the tip to ground (sleeve) with a paperclip. Might work, try it.

In theory yes I think you could parallel more normally open outputs using a tip/sleeve 1/4" jack.
If there is some source voltage from the Jamman a 0.47uf film blocking capacitor could filter DC before the NO output. Solder it right to the output jack.

But wouldn't such an arrangement, one switch for two functions, be a little funky to use?
Every time you set your tap tempo you will advance the loop three times, no?

Good luck!
