Title: Inside a TO-3 Power Transistor
Post by: amz-fx on November 27, 2014, 03:15:54 AM
I thought you guys might enjoy the pix that I took after cutting apart a 34 year old pnp power transistor:

The transistor still works and the hFE is in spec.

Enjoy!

When I was a kid I took apart the caps of at least a dozen 2N3055's, for the desperation of my father (the owner :P).

These things are very good (and expensive) phototransistors.

By the way, I've seen lots of projects (envelope followers & the like) with LDRs, but not with phototransistors. Why?

How much does the hfe changes with light?

Update: I measured the wires connecting the chip to the pins and they are 0.010" which makes them 30 gauge.

Does this make you reconsider the impact of interconnect cables?  :icon_rolleyes:

Put it under the sun and it will provide few millivolts....
find 100.000 more, and enjoy your first DIY solar panel  :icon_mrgreen:

Wire bonding by hand is one of the things I do for a living, except the wire is .0007" and those pads are giant comparatively speaking.
