Title: An awesome sounding fuzz circuit
Post by: Gus on October 24, 2015, 02:13:06 PM
An awesome fuzz schematic.  One of my favourite fuzz circuits.

The distortion part I built was posted online years ago at effectronics, before Aron's.  Note the 100ohm,10K at Q1 and bias control. I think it has a very nice sounding tone control part values.

I built this circuit years ago
Select input caps to your liking.  I like to have a number of selectable caps
External bias control. I label it crack to compress
Left side has a guitar and cable sim omit in build.
Has 5 external controls as shown can be built with 6

Need to think up a good name for this fuzz  Carl Martin makes an effect called THE FUZZ

EDIT
R3 and R4 are a 1K gain control
R5 is a 5K wired for 0 ohms CCW and 5K CW
R10 and R15 are a 100K tone
R16 and R17 are a 100k volume

A good range of input caps .01uf to 1uf select for your passive guitar, bass.  One I just finished has .022uf, .122uf(.022uf + .1uf) and .492uf(.47uf + .022uf) on a toggle switch

Omit C3 and parts to the left

Layout and short wire lengths are important this can break into oscillation at max gain

I love FF derivatives- and look forward to breading this one. Thank you, Gus.

Just one small thing, does this not need an isolation cap before the volume pot? The 47K to ground and the tone circuit pot seems to parallel the output pot without a cap on the wiper of the tone.

C8 is the DC blocking cap for the tone and volume.  Think of the tone, volume section as a pull down for C8

The Naked Gun comes to mind, "Nice beaver". "Thanks, I just had it stuffed."

Add some clipping diodes like the BMP and then call it The Fuzzy Beaver Muff.

I'm gonna build this thing. it'll take me a while to get through some pressing shtuff i have on deck, mostly other peoples broken guitars, but i'm gonna.
i know you've been digging deeper into refining fuzzes for quite a while and have a few variations on the theme, so if you say this is a good'un, well I BELIEVE it. besides, i just like fuzz pedals. and my go-to fuzz is getting tired after many back and forth mods/unmods so it's time for a new build anyhow.
as for names what about the Gus Face?

I was gonna say the "Guzz Face" or "Guzz Box"
I can't wait to try this out too!
