Title: Klon Clone Volume changes the level even when bypassed. Solution?
Post by: steveyraff on February 16, 2016, 12:20:15 PM
Hey guys,

So a while back a guy asked me to build a Klon Clone for him. I think I ended up using the layout for the Silver Edition with buffer, so its not true bypassed (as seen here: http://tagboardeffects.blogspot.co.uk/2014/07/klon-centaur-silver-edition.html (http://tagboardeffects.blogspot.co.uk/2014/07/klon-centaur-silver-edition.html) )

I just got it back today and haven't plugged it in just yet - thought I'd check in here first to see if anyone can direct me in a general area I might want to start looking. He says that even when the pedal is OFF, the volume control on it changes the level of his signal. Obviously, when the pedal is in the OFF position, none of the controls should effect anything.

I think this might have been the first time I ever used a DPDT footswitch, rather than a 3PDT - so I wasn't as confident about my wiring - could this cause this problem?

I've just opened it up and tried to supply some photos, but its tricky getting a clear shot of the insides.

If anyone can suggest a good starting point, it'd be appreciated. Thanks!

Steve.

This is a common mistake! I can almost guarantee that the issue is in the wiring to the switch. Check those connections first and see if that is your issue.

Cheers - Jeremy

I wrote a whole reply to this, linking to others with the same issue and a diagram of the EHX Soul Food variant, but then my street's power cut out! Fs!

Anyways, I think I'm overlooking something as surely there'd be more reports of this, but it seems to me that R27 would bleed bypass signal into the volume pot in your diagram. That resistor is removed in the Soul Food!

What's going on? What are we missing here?! In any case, you could try removing R27 and see if that solves it.

Conspiracy theory: fake part in case the goop wasn't enough? Lol

ah! good old Firefox, saving my post. i've deleted all the text, here're a couple of the links i mentioned:

i have made 7 klon klons from the various tagboard layouts. 2 times i had this issue. once i had the wiring wrong on the switch. the other time i had a microscopic solder bridge. i never did see it. out of frustration i took a razor knife and scored  inbetween all the rails. .
