Hey guys
I'd like to add a sound-on-sound function to my RE-201. As far as I can tell, this can be done by adding a switch that cuts the voltage to the erase head.

Has anyone done this mod? If so, how does the SOS function in comparison to the Korg SE-500? Is it possible to get some instructions on how to perform this mod? I would greatly appreciate that, it would save me some time poking around in this thing.
Thanks!
Welcome to the forum. If your space echo is in original condition, modding it like this will probably affect its value seriously in the negative direction. Otherwise - the mod is described in the video comments - wire the switch so that it connects/disconnects the voltage wire to the erase head. If you don't already have a schematic or service manual, you may find one helpful - should be easy to find online.

Thanks guys! I'll see if I can put that switch somewhere without drilling the front plate. I rarely use the footswitch inputs so that may be a good spot to use.
Happy to report that the mod was successfully done. We installed the SOS switch where the footswitch normally goes that way the mod can be reversed and the RE-201 can be put back to its original condition. The footswitch was shrinkwrapped and neatly tucked along the backside of the chasis.

Glad to hear it. Nice work.
