Title: Alternatives for q2 and q3 on a Tonebender Mark I
Post by: MordechaiBenZev on January 21, 2022, 07:42:51 PM
Hi all.  I just built up a Tonebender Mk I that sounds phenomenal.  Q1 was an OC75 (65 Hfe, moderate 380 leakage) and I used two Philips AC125s for the other two transistors (125 and 100 Hfe respectively, both 400 leakage).

A friend asked me to build one for him, but I am wondering what other transistors some of you have used for the Q2-Q3 positions.  I have a few AC125s left but they're out of spec.  I also have some 2SB54s and a few 2SA354s that may be in spec in terms of gain and leakage, but after doing some research I've found not a single report of anybody using those for this circuit and I suspect they just aren't "right" for it.  I'd be curious to know what devices other people have found to perform well in those positions.

Those Toshiba 2SB54 and 2SB56 are great for fuzzes. But it's possible that they don't leak as much as this circuit needs. The ones I have are all below 150ua.
Can be solved tweaking the base resistors at q2 and q3.
