Two evenings, two things made!
This time a rack for dispensing hookup wire.
The two uprights are not straight or parallel, I drilled the holes by hand, but I have extra wood scraps and can redo when I eventually get a drill press :)

Better put it under lock and key with the price of wire now. I was at a scrap dealer a few years ago and watched a guy come in with a few coils of house wire. He got $420 from the dealer. We had our watermains replaced last week. The coil of 3/4 inch copper tube was $920. Last year, it would have been $450.
Nice one, Patrick. I had an idea to do something very similar, but hadn't got round to it yet. Oh, the shame... :icon_redface: I could cheat and repurpose a kitchen roll holder?

Wow! That's crazy.
I've got a great big heavy transformer of unknown origin sitting around, makes me think I should unwrap the wire and sell it.

A kitchen roll holder would be much quicker, and the sides would actually be square :icon_lol:
This was just something quick to do when I found myself in the grey zone of evening activities, having not enough time or mental energy to play music or build a stompbox, and decided to use up some scrap wood

that's not a valve amp power transformer someone gave you, is it?
No! This is a big-arse thing I found on the verge in a light industrial area.
The transformer you gave me is still earmarked for a stereo low-wattage amp :)
I wish i had a extra foot of bench space for that. Actually, I hammer nails into the floor joists of my 1925 house in the basement and hang the spools above my head. Other than that, i have miles of wiring harnesses from gutted tube organs and military/test equipment so i rarely have ever bought wire. Lowes had the electrical house wire 12awg/14agw under lock and key last time i was there.

Nails in the floor joists is my solution as well. Wire's always out of sight out of the way but right there when you need some.

if you had an extra foot, it'd be lucky, surely.
that's good to hear about that lump/paperweight, Patricks, I wasn't even sure it was you.

Yes, 'tis I! ;D
I'm still planning on turning the BC108/109 transistors we were talking about at the time into fuzz goodness, as well, they haven't made it off the project "to do" list yet :icon_lol:

I just wish I had a kitchen roll holder at this point.
