I have a Rat board (only my second Rat I can remember) with common mods to put in a BB box and I often like to add a second effect if there's room. Just thought of another fuzz face but was thinking something different maybe crazy with two or three knobs. Has to be no bigger than 1.5 inch by 1.5 inch, Vero preferably. Before or after the Rat.
The Rat has a very aggressive midrange, so you might get good results pushing it into something scooped like a Big Muff. I'd definitely start with the gain and tone fairly low on the Muff if you decide to go that route.
Tubescreamer->Rat->Big Muff is a textbook signal path if you want to be able to do almost any genre on the cheap
I don't think you can pull off an entire big muff on 1.5in by 1.5in. I would do Tbrown's mondo fuzz which sounds pretty close to a BMP and is much smaller

I check it out. Looks perfect have all the parts and haven't used MPSA18s much. I already have 8 Muff builds and drives. And yeah I need it to fit in the box though Ive gotten the muff layout down pretty small doubling up and overlapping, this one not tested yet with a boost going to pair with it in a B box eventually.

Would that fuzz be better before or after the Rat?

Well after if you want more crazy, and before if you want more freq response (I think)
I never heard this Mondo Fuzz. Is there some demo around?
I found the schematic in the archives :icon_eek: I just looked around for a bit and I can't find a demo
One of my favorite Rat combos is to simply put two Rats together.. I had a build that was pretty popular and sold a couple handfuls locally was two Rats, with switching for series/parallel and a/b. Some had different diodes between the two units, some had diode switching.. so you can decide between a pointed known use case or a sandbox knob-twiddler.
Kinda like a Proco Deucetone, except without the need for an external switcher to do series/parallel
Rats are already covered with fuzz, aren't they? :P

I can remember reading about Leslie West, he said they went to Sam Ash to buy the latest fuzzbox he was hearing about, Sam Ash Fuzz, he said he bought 2 of them and hooked them together.

Two great pedal names right there! :icon_lol:
