Title: FUZZ FACE NOISE SUPPRESSION
Post by: brian wenz on January 18, 2004, 02:03:03 PM
Hello Hello--
I found an old post by Joe Gagan where he mentions putting a .005 cap between Q2 collector and ground to get rid of some hiss in the Dino Fuzz.
Joe said that it reduced the hiss at idle by about 10% without affecting the high end.   HHMMMmmmmm.......well, if .005 gets rid of 10% of the racket, why not up the value and get rid of MORE noise??
So, I've been trying different values of caps in Fuzz Face circuits  [went all the way up to .047!] and the higher values REALLY take alot of noise out but also take away high end.  I can easily live with the treble loss when a .02 is in the circuit [and I really appreciated the drop in noise] but this may not be to everyones taste.
Whadda ya think???
Brian.

Hi Brian.  Anything that reduces the noise in the Fuzz Face without altering the the frequency response range too much would be a welcomed addition to the circuit.

Hullo Phillip--
Yeah, I don't mind the loss of sizzle in the high end but Ammscray hates it!   I wonder how many people would consider this a blessing or a curse??

It seems like the input and output capacitors could be adjusted to regain the high end...but then the circuit would lose some of its lows.  I guess it depends on the pickups ;)

Hello--
By lowering the  input cap it brings the whole frequency range of the effect down and you STILL don't get the high-end "chirp" that the un-modded circuit gives you.   I kind of like the harsh highs being attenuated by using the cap on Q2's collector.............but that's just my ears.
