Title: Mouser shipping upgrade - anyone had this happen?
Post by: sfr on February 10, 2004, 04:27:07 AM
I like to order from Steve at SmallBear, but when I need other non-stompbox parts that he doesn't stock, I'll order from Mouser, just to have all my stuff in one order. Although understandable, I don't like how they don't tell you what shipping is when you place your order, and I'm often surprised by how much it is, so I go with the cheapest option - which generally means it's delivered by mule or something because it sometimes takes a real long while.  Anyway, I just got an email telling me how I'm a valued customer and my order was upgraded to UPS 3-Day or something like that, free of charge.  Never had this happen before - anyone else?  I wonder if it's because it's a relatively large order (at least for me) or if I'm there lucky one hundredth customer, or what.  Certainly wouldn't mind making it happen again, although I don't see myself needing to order from anywhere other than Smallbear for a long while.

I don't know about that, but I have ordered things from them and wanted to return it or exchange it. When I called them, they said it's not worth it to send it back. They gave me a refund and said I can keep the part for myself, sell it, use it, or throw it out!! This ws a $10 switch! It's probably pennies compared to the large orders from big-scale manufacturers that order $10,000 at a time. If anything, it's probably the same deal, they can cover the cost.  :D

Large companies can get a remarkably good rate with UPS, FEDEX etc (for a start, they are loading a full truck at one end, rather than running around town!) so, the UPS price (constant for weight up to a fair whack) prob beat the alternative.

i had a mouser order a couple weeks ago - pretty small, it was about 20 bucks and they upgraded to 3 day. i dont know why, but it was really great cuz all my parts came at the same time (weber and hoffman send their stuff same day) :)

same thing happened with me about two weeks ago... about 20 bucks worth of parts, I picked ground delivery and had it shipped ups 3 day for the price of the lowest shipping method.  not bad, not sure why though.  Don't complain, i guess...

I had this happen to me once. It wasn't as much of a blessing though as I was wating for some funds to clear and had put the opder in COD.
So I had to scramble to getthe funds together three days ahead of time or some such....Oh well it was cool to get my junk quicker.

It would be cool if they threw in some Mouser t-shirts or stickers to put on my pedalboard. :D
