Title: NPN boost...a few questions
Post by: mattdowney on January 12, 2005, 05:42:58 PM
hello i am pretty sure that i am going to build a NPN boost. this will be my first project and i think i can do it haha. i just have a few questions. will this boost boost my volume (like a clean boost) or my gain (like a overdrive). i want something to boost my volume for solos and lead work, like a seymore duncan pickup booster or a MXR micro amp, i do not want a overdrive type boost. will this pedal do what i am looking for? also does anyone have a list of the parts i will need? and are the resisters, caps, ect. i will need common parts? can i get them at a local electronics store or will i have to order them? one more thing, is this boost true bypass?  any help will be greatly apriciated.

thanks , matt

I believe this is what they're building over in the Beginner's Project forum.  http://diystompboxes.com/sboxforum/viewforum.php?f=6

Everything is step-by-step with all the info you could want.  Good luck!

I just plugged mine up tonight for the first time in weeks, and, yep, it still sounded killer.

I love that thing.  I need to get an actual stomper on it so I can use it (instead of the big 'ol toggle on it now).

I just built one recently. It's a nice sounding circuit. To answer your question about the sound (clean boost vs. overdrive), it does break up a little at high gain settings. I like the sound, but there are cleaner boosts out there like the AMZ Mosfet Boost or Minibooster.
