Title: Salvage Jackpot!!!
Post by: Nalo1022 on June 05, 2006, 10:04:01 PM
I recently aquired a old Tapco mixer from a co-worker. (I was buying a drumset from him and he through in the Tapco). Well tonight I came home and had some free time to waster so I decided to investigate the old Tapco. I plugged it in and it turned right on and connected some mics etc to see if signal was going through and all was good. Well seeing as i also aquired a perfectly fine Yamaha mixer from the same gentleman on the same day, I opened up the back to see if there were any goodies. all the contacts were inclean and every pot turned cleanly so i peeked closser to see what types of ICs there were, and what do you know each channel has its own seperate PCB on wich are 5 RC4558P. There are 12 channels on this mixer thats 60 4558s... along with the random others throughout (about a dozen+). not to mention all the  potentionmeters (bout 120) each one having a fitting knob, lots of stereo phono jacks, alot of cable, and a few lm301s. There will be alot of toys being made soon :icon_biggrin:

i, personally, would keep the mixer as is and continue using it.

you can still buy pots, 4558s, and jacks, you know...  ??? and a decent mixer will cost alot more than that...!

By the time you carefully desoldered and removed a 4558, you've 'wasted' enough time to buy you a new one, IMHO. The pots might be worth it though....
