Title: High voltage tube driver schem.
Post by: cbriere on November 30, 2006, 08:01:47 AM
After long debate,i figured the best overdrive sound i could
get, to my taste, is the one from high voltage tube circuit.
So, i plan to build an all tube pedal.

Can anyone indicate the schematics of the :
HIGH VOLTAGE TUBEDRIVER
or recommand such type of circuit (with schematics please)

I have no experience but I hear that the Matchless Hot Box is well thought of and it is a high voltage design...

If your going high voltage, my thought would be to find an amp with distortion you really like, locate a schematic, and rebuild the preamp section.  Of course, the sound of that amp will also have a lot to do with how the power stage functions... better just build the entire amp :icon_wink:

+1 for hotbox. If you look at schematic you'll se that it has pretty much the same topology as famous Plexi Lead 1959 preamp (as well as many other amps that are based on that amp) just with slightly different values. I built one but with several modifications. You can find photos/schematic/clips on my site (link is below). I'm super satisfied. It doesn't have much gain by itself. I mean, I can play vai/petrucci style of music with only preamp, but when boosted it sings :)
