Title: diode in4007
Post by: Zedmin_fx on February 23, 2008, 11:57:11 AM
Hi I have a 15 of these that I ripped out of a pcb from a old furnace. I was just wondering if they are worth keeping or not. If they are worth keeping, what would I most likely need them for. Thanks ;)

I would recommend looking up the spec sheets on them. If they take a lot of current to forward bias ,you would not want them as clipping diodes. You could always use them as reverse polarity protection.
I would recommend putting most of the parts you " rescue" in one spot. Unless it is a known " mojo '" part like ac 128's. I pick up so much stuff from scrap pc boards that there is not much of a point in making sure you know where everything is at.

1n4007 is the same as 1n4001 (or any 1n400x). It can handle higher voltages, up to 1000v.
It can be used as a clipper (in fact the 1n4001, is used as clipper in e.g. the MI Audio Blues Pro)

also, the 1n4007 is popular in power supplys as recifiers
i think they can be used for polarity protection too, but im not sure if its only 1n4001 or any 1n400x

Look at some of the other stuff at the site.
