Title: Electrolytics... any alternatives to xicon out there?
Post by: Solidhex on May 11, 2008, 02:51:10 AM
I generally just order xicon electros but have been enjoying using some older sprague stuff in some builds. As far as non polarized caps go there seems to be a ton of options but I've never looked into what else is out there electro-wise. Anyone have any preferences for anything that's in current production?

No, there are plenty of manufacturers out there (try browsing Mouser or Digikey sometime) and plenty of models per manufacturer, but outside of the motherboard/computer psu recapping subculture, who cares?  Buy whatever amuses you.

I use whatever the surplus store has in stock the day I visit. Sometimes it's xicon, sometime it's elgin, sometimes it's sprague. (Yawn...)

Well, there is Nichicon, Vishay (BC Components), Vishay (Sprague),  and Illinois, to name a view.

I've heard Nichicon makes good quality capacitors, but I can't really say anything first hand.
