Title: 4049 based non-dirt projects?
Post by: awitee on June 29, 2008, 07:58:02 AM
what are some good non-dirt 4049 based pedals out there?
i searched and all i could find was dirt pedals and a tremolo.. are there others?

My favorite is the John Hollis Ultra Flanger.

This circuit is not a pedal but is a good relay driver for latching relays but it can be used with any relay with little or no modification. This time the 4049 is used as a flip-flop.

not pedal based but if your looking for an interesting 4049 project, how about a brain stimulator :P

I assume the tremolo you meant was this one: http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/diagrams/catrmsc.gif (http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/diagrams/catrmsc.gif)?

BTW, Gerry, I'd love to see the EF section of that fuzz-wah of yours. Your hints were not enough for a dolt like me to reconstruct.

Although I like it, the whole circuit needs a rework (it could be better designed, including the envelope follower).  I need to try some things out with my scope and don't have the time at the moment.  With any luck I'll get to tackle it in the Autumn.

What about a phaser?

Check the Pearl Phaser schem at the FIS.  The mystery IC4 is a CD4069UB.  I bet a CD4049UB would work instead, keeping in mind the pinouts are different!

MXR Envelope Filter - watch for the different pinout, but it works.

do you have links? :icon_biggrin:
thx for the suggestions!!
the reason BTW is that i asked my sister to buy a cd4049, and she ended up buying 6 haha
i just thought id use it

i've built a mxr envellope filter with mods it and sounds very good:

so instead of the 4066 and 4069 i can use 4049s?

Yes - Exactly the kind of thing I was going to suggest!

On a side-note... can anyone explain how the inverters work in the circuit? They look like they are in the place of the variable resistance element, but how are they accomplishing the variable resistance? Is it simply a matter of using their output MOSFETs as the variable resistors? Ever since I reversed a Bad Stone, I'd been wondering about this.

No just for the 4069, the 4066 contains switches and must remain the same for the pulse width modulation to work.
