Title: Pedal Voltage
Post by: outoftune on September 01, 2008, 01:44:05 PM
Hi everyone, I am starting a new project that involves electric switching with effects loops. What I need to know is what is the maximum or typical voltage output of guitar effects?

A guitar with passive pickups: ~100mV
Most effects run on 9V, thus will have about a swing of 3-4V  headroom.
I'd say most effects will not use that headroom, but put out max 1-2V.

Active pickups have more output: 1-4V.

It ofcourse depends on the pickups and effects used. If you know/have the pickups and effects, why don't you measure the output?

I don't know exactly what pedals will be involved. The pedals will be able to be swapped out (it will be different effects loops). Thanks for the help.

so if I were to do switching with an ic, I would probably want the max signal voltage to be around 9-12 rather than 6? Would 6 probably be too risky?
