cause i'm so addicted.
all I think about is making pedals all day.
help me. :icon_wink:
uff, man, i have that too.. today, i was looking at the hills around santiago, and i saw frequency response curves!!!
we are lost..
Don't despair! It is perfectly possible to rehab from DIY!
1st step is to give away ALL your DIY stuff. I'll send you my address... ;-)
It is very interesting to me, this phenomena. You start out innocently enough, and before you know it, you have become an addict. I think I'm something like three (or is it four?) years into this and I can' stop.
The first rule of pedal club is, build more, learn more.
I was clean for at least 6 months!
It was extremely hard, but here is the recipe:
-DIY is a hobby, so you MUST keep away!
Get an all day job, and work like if you were a Chinese slave.
-Go find a girl!!
There is a lot of things you could do with one of these ,and if she is well trained it will be inexpensive!
- Focus your attention on less- addictive things
like cigars, alcohol, teenage mutant ninja drugs, and that kind of stuff
- Go on vacations!!
IguazĂș waterfalls, Perito Moreno Glacier and several other Argentinean locations will be interesting, and if you have US$ you will be in a kind of "/godmode 1"
- Try another way to express yourself
Like joining the navy, greenpeace, the UFO association , or fotolog.com
No way, there is nothing you could to to run away!!
Marriage, bro. She'll cure you quick.
Have kids.
Hm... Kids as rehab... is that good advice? :icon_eek:
I didn't even build one pedal yet but I'm in front of computer ever day planning my builds :icon_twisted:

Umm... absolutely not. :)
It's possible to burn yourself out. Happens {BION].
Like many other addictions you have to 'hit the bottom of the river' to know which way is up, which is luckier than suspension in zero bouyancy in mid-current until your air runs out or you get stuck on or hit by something !
These 'river bottem' events tend be short-lived compared to the long term addict events, be sure to note how/ when you hit bottom, a starque memory of the accelleration towards air may be very beneficial and good for long term recovery.
I've been about a year now, the only thing I built was a BMP, but I'm getting the "Neutron Itch" again, so I might just go down and not come up for air for a while, again, soon !
The first three weeks are the hardest to get through for me. One great big dose of effect seems to get me off to a good start though...

I started into this to get great tone with the goal of nontube low volume majesty, SO THAT I COULD MAKE MUSIC. Now I say, "as soon as I try the (newest cool distortion on the forum) I'll get on with the music part. I don't even make boxes anymore, I just have 3 breadbaords populated. One is for discrete types (Obsidian, Vulcan, Thor), one is for op amps (Chaos, Crunch Box, Muff Fuzz) and one for CMOS (Red Llama, Hot Harmonics, Double D). That was 6 years ago. Part of addiction is avoiding unpleasantness and learning computer based recording must qualify as unpleasant to a Hard Rocker. :icon_rolleyes: :icon_eek: :icon_cool: :icon_twisted:
Man, I have 4 kids, and I STILL can't stop thinking about pedals. Sure they keep me away from building, but I still think about it all the time, even at work (like right now.)
Check out Paul Morossey's (sp?) tag line. ;)
I know people that actually spend much more of their time building pedals than playing guitar :icon_mrgreen:

Ditto.
My son is 5 and he helps me build! Uh-oh! Am I passing on the addiciton or is he just an enabler?
-Joe Hart
when you literally have zero time to build, the itch doesn't go away... it just drives you crazier..
I haven't been able to build anything since probably around may or june, and i still think about it every day. i come here and check the boards, and i find myself not being able to check the main board because it makes me miss it too much!!
I am not a guitar player!!! and still expend every single cent at electronics store!
thanx guys.
i guess i will substitute my addiction to tube amp building now.
also, I think I will be ok since I will make a trip back home to my home country, Japan for a while.
but there are so many cheap stores for parts there :icon_twisted: I will probablly end up buying all the parts.
also, my girlfriend plays in a band with me and asks me to make more pedals for her sound.
and my cat enjoys oscilation.
I will join UFO association and make UFO pedals.
no where to get out of this hahaha.
I suspect if you try making a living from it, that 'll spoil the fun right quick.
B.
You want a cure real quick? Etch yourself a board, based on a layout that nobody tested before posting, based on an erroneous reverse engineered schematic. Then spend several months trying to debug it.
That'll take the wind out of your sails for a bit.

And the last rule about pedal club... if this is your first visit to diystompboxes.com, you HAVE to build a pedal!
If stompboxes are an addiction then Aron is the bartender, and the drinks are always on the house!

Pedal addiction is the gateway to tube amp addiction. You're too far gone now, there's no turning back and with an enabler of a girlfriend.... I'm sorry, it's a lost cause, there is no hope of ever leading a normal life... You are doomed to the life of a solder sniffing dude, dude! :icon_twisted: My thoughts are with you.
dave
hahahha lol!
Take your soldering iron, plug it in, turn it ALL THE WAY UP (if you have that option), then jam it through your palms and also all your fingers of both hands.
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THAT METHOD!!!!
Or move to Pennsylvania and become Amish.
Either way, there is no known sure-fire cure for this affliction.

I'm right there with you too. Think about it all day, then I go to bed thinking about building and end up dreaming about it too. Just the other morning I woke up thinking about a few items I missed on my last parts order. :icon_eek:
It's a healty obsession, I swear. :icon_rolleyes:
