Title: Lovepedal Eternity build: troubleshooting
Post by: Entrant_21 on January 01, 2009, 01:12:01 PM
Hi, I havn't had many problems building effects before, well nothing I can't figure out myself but this ones got me..

So im building it from this vero:

I have all the bypass wiring correct, checked that loads of times. I checked all the components are in the right places as well. The only thing I changed was that I added a 100k linear blend pot at the end before the volume control.

Does anyone know whats wrong with it?
It seems to tick every 500ms or so..thats all im getting out of it unless i turn the blend down which brings in the clean signal. The volume pot crackles when it's turned also.

Thanks

edit: found a new schematic, now its squealing, like feedbacking. I can control the pitch with my guitar nad the tone controls etc.

any solutions?

My guess would be that that blend pot is acting as a feedback path from output to input.

Any time that you can control some sort of "singing" or "squealing" effect via the guitar's gain/tone pots, you've got a path from output back to input producing positive feedback.  Almost guaranteed.

Can't believe I didnt think of that.. lol i forgot the lovepedal has no buffers for blendage.

Thanks Guys

I have the same problem with a microphonic feedback sound with my Eternity.
If there is some sort of feedback between input and output, would a cap somewhere prevent it?

This is driving me insane  :icon_mad:
There is a strange whining sound, like microphonic feedback whenever the tone and gain are at ten. It changes pitch as I turn the guitar down. Whenever I touch the enclosure with my hand, the sound stops.
I'm using a 4558, 500k gain, 500k volume and 5k tone.

bump.
Did you manage to sort out what was wrong with it?
I also want to use this lay out. Looking at it there seems to be an error. The trace cut on col 7 3rd row doesnt make any sense. It shouldnt be there as it leaves D1 anode hanging and not connected to the opamp output. Where did you get this layout from?

I managed to reduce the noise by using shielded cable and shortening wire lengths. There are some builds at

I see this layout uses 4 clipping diodes etc , the one i built only asked for 3 clippers !
What would be the difference here ??

Also this one calls for 500k pots , and not the 100k pots ??

From what I understand the 500k pots are the burst edition and the 100k are the black edition............ Less diodes = more gain less volume. 3 diodes would be asymetrical, 2 symetrical . Some say A is more tube like, kinda ragged sounding and Sym to be smoother. I have yet to really be able to tell a difference, very subjective. To me the biggest difference is silicon, germ, and LEDS.
