Title: 1290NS Box licensed by ZVex at Small Bear?
Post by: soggybag on January 16, 2009, 09:57:41 PM
Small Bear lists:

Box - Taiwanese 'B' Size
Made for Small Bear under license from ZVex. 6-32 screws at the corners make it extremely rugged! Outside dimensions 4.39" x 2.36" x 1.03" Deep.

Looks like these are the regular 1290NS "B" sized boxes. Why's this licensed by ZVex, is there something special about this? What's the difference between this and the regular un-licensed version of the box?

Says Zvex Effects on the bottom. Steve usually grinds it out but sometimes you can still read it.

I find they are smoother than regular 1290NS enclosures so finishing is easier. I also like the screws they use better, seem more stable.

Zvex had them custom made for them, even though they look just like the 1590B's.  I imagine they have thousands of them, and that's why we never see zvex pedals in any other size.

The size might be special, I don't recall exactly but I believe Zach said something here about it, maybe something about accomodating a 9v battery on its side?  Something like that...

If I got to design a hammond box I would make that deep, but just wide enough to, when using it in the vertical, mxr style (like a portrait, rather than a landscape) you could put jacks on the side in line with a 3pdt stomp switch.  Would free up a few square inches for the circuit...

They are ever so slightly deeper and larger than a 1290NS and the screws are much beefier.

Anyone try these out before? What's the difference between this and a regular 1290 box?
