There are many different ways to wire switches; this may be the easiest (and 'true bypass'):

The switch in the schematic is to cut the power and can/should be omitted if you wire it like the picture I posted (unless you want a power switch, but it won't be very useful).

The schematic you're looking at only has a SPST (or SPDT) as far as I can tell.  An SPST switch has 2 pins - one for the battery and one for the circuit.  An SPDT switch would be slightly better because you could wire the circuit to ground so that it isn't left floating.

The problem with just using the spst switch in that circuit is that when you turn it off I think you loose your signal (like you can't have signal passing without the boost working).

If you are using a battery snap, you can wire it up like this so when you unplug the input jack, the battery is disconnected so it doesnt drain.

Grounded input on DPDT's is best IMO.

Read the DIY FAQ section here, it goes over all this sort of stuff. It helped me a lot when I first started out building stuff -  http://www.diystompboxes.com/wiki/index.php?title=DIY_FAQ
