Title: GGG tubescreamer mod question (what does the switch do)?
Post by: gnugear on December 31, 2009, 07:34:31 PM
I just built the General Guitar Gadgets TS808 and installed the three way switch that toggles between stock diode and LED clipping. My question is the middle position ... it's definitely different sounding ... is it a combo of the diode and LEDs? I can't find any info that states what it's doing in the middle position.

Did you get the kit? or did you source your own parts? Is your switch an on/on/on or an on/on switch?

More to the point, how do you like the sound? Depending on your wiring, it could be either both sets of diodes, or none.

Yeah, I got the kit and everything sounds great. I just want a better understanding of what's going on ... it's definitely a three way switch with each position getting louder. I know the LED position produces the most volume so I was guessing that the middle postion was both.

Looking more carefully, If it's an on/on/on switch, the middle could be a 'no clipping' option. if your switch is an on/on switch, there wouldn't be a middle setting, just one type of clipping per throw.

According to the mod document, it's an on/off/on switch, and the middle eliminates  both clipping methods, making it a boost only pedal
