Title: fuzzface fuzz pot cap alternatives
Post by: m_charles on February 21, 2010, 09:50:38 PM
Anyone here like something other than the 22uf on the fuzz-pot of your FF?
Just curious...

i like 4.7uf at the input because i never use the guitar volume at max. this way i preserve lows. also a 22uf at the fuzz pot. and a bigger box to hold poly caps.

you mean 2.2uf?
no. I know there's pages and pages about in and out caps. I specifically meant the 22uf and its affect on the fuzz pot.
thanks!

oh ,man, i am guilty of not reading your post correctly. oops.
i like 47 uf and a 2k resistor to ground instead of a pot. usually requires a 20k trimpot on q2 collector to bias.

sorry for the misfire.

i built your fuzz joe, while back. really liked it! was a fun early build.
wondering what a 4.7uf or 10uf might sound like on the pot. guess I'll just have to try it.

4.7uf or 10uf
Being an AC bypass capacitor for the amplifer, it bypasses the resistor to ground for AC signals above X...smaller values thin the bass.

hmmm. thinning the bass could be a good thing IMO.  :icon_biggrin: time to warm up the iron.

i dont like how the fuzz pot gets the sound muddy when rolled down.

i prefer setting a fixed resistor there, and varying the gain with a pot adding more negative feedback, this way it cleans brightly just like the guitar volume does

thanks m charles.

anyone who wants to explore more dimensions from a fuzzface, try putting an lpb1 style gainstage after the ff, with diodes to ground at the end. sort of a jordan bosstone/ff hybrid concept.

gets some very heavy sounds.
