Title: Several Pedal Hardware Parts Questions
Post by: Steve Mavronis on February 22, 2010, 01:55:17 PM
I'm getting ready to order some pedal enclosure hardware parts, at least enough to build 2 pedals at this time. I already have the 2 enclosures, which are Hammond 1590B's with one being bare metal and the other pre-painted in a powder black finish because I wanted each to test with to see which looked better or more practical to use. It looks like no single place carries everything I'd want so I'll have to split my orders between 2 or 3 of them. I have some stupid questions to get out of my system...

I want to get some angled PCB mount pots, a 500K reverse log and 100K audio. Some sites use generic pictures or none at all. Are there any suggestions for online vendors who carry these? Would I have issues with what type knobs to get (set screw or push on) that will fit on them? Also it is unclear if some knobs have a set screw unless they say so in their descriptions. For labeling would special font printable decals be best or some time of font printable rub on type? Are there any preferences to using a 3mm vs 5mm LED other than size and would each require a different resistor? Any preferences to enclosed vs open jacks, and regular vs RoHS compliant 3PDT footswitches which are practically the same price anyway?

Smallbear has all that.

The good thing (of many) is that all the parts are pre picked for stomp boxes. It is unlikely you
will get something that will not work.

Yeah especially the angled mount pots that look smooth shaft? Except that some stuff there like the enclosed jacks and 3PDT ($9 vs $4 footswitch) cost over twice as much as PedalParts for example. Knob-wise there are some MXR ones here at DIY Stompboxes store that I like too. I just have to watch the individual shipping costs to make it worthwhile to split an order.
