Does anyone have a mod, or an idea on how to squeeze some more gain/distortion out of a Red Llama circuit?
It sounds great as it is, but it would be cool to be able to push it some more when needed... ;)

maybe you can use more "gain stage" from the chips, I tried that but it appeared a lot of noise and oscillations (breadboard).
Otherwise, you can put a booster in front of the circuit , some pedals have that kind of configuration (calinbread SCO , ehx hot tube, appliance something ect.....)

I've some 4049BP and I wanna make a distortion circuit using it. All cmos chips are the same?
You can increase the gain by increasing the resistance in the first feedback loop. You could also lower the 100k at the first input. The gain of the first stage is pretty dependent on the ratio of the feedback resistor (the gain pot + 100k in series) to the input resistor (the 100k going into the first inverter from the input).
You can calculate it close to (100K + pot)/100k so when the pot is at the minimum the gain of the first stage is close to 1, and at max close too 11. If you make the input resistor 10k instead say you woudl get a range of ~10 to 100 (in the first stage).
I made one with a switch like the original craig anderton design, where flipping the switch puts a 10meg resistor in the feedback loop of the first stage, making the gain about 10 times more. Sounds pretty good.
You need the 4049UBE or unbuffered chip for most projects around here. :icon_cool:
If anyone the right side of the atlantic can sell me unbuffered for less than ~£1 each, shoot me a PM, or i'll have to ebay it.

ya i have a really bad video with no sound here that you can see the difference on a scope at least between with and without the 10 meg added.
around 23 seconds you see it get alot more square, that is in "high gain" and then around 30 it goes back to normal gain. sorry no sound clip :(
