Title: F'ed up my ts 9
Post by: clamup1 on August 11, 2010, 07:33:03 PM
well the happy days are over. i got the rest of the parts for my mods.

http://www.tonepad.com/photoessay.asp?photoEssayID=9&sequenceNo=1
i got the resistors changed out, all i had left was the ic

http://www.musicianshotline.com/archive/monthly/pedal_power/0603.htm             <
i got the cap and the resistor changed out with this one.                                        |
                                                                                                                        |
the prob started when i took out the ic and put in a socket then put the ic in. i changed out the cap directly above the chip decided not to mess with the other one. the pedal pays clean with no distortion at all and the led wont come on.

i checked my solder joints and they look ok. nothings pulled loose. i dont know what to check. HELP

i dont know what to check
Everything a DMM can check !
No short on power supply ?
start wherever you made mods, test for a resistor value to ground [as shown on schematic, with the black lead clipped to ground. test all those other common ground point.
If anywhere you did work can be tested for continuity [resistors leave lead above board, caps are more diff/impossible to test connection of.
If the power supply seems right, connect battery, measure battery and all the pin voltages [from ground.
Back to the Debugging sticky thread? If not it's a must read for allowing debug help here, and there.

hey i feel really stupid but the battery in the pedal was dead. i do have another ?. the pedal has non polerized caps in it. can you put polerized in there place. on of the mods changed out the np caps above the ic. when i looked at the caps they were replacing them with it looked like the replacements were polerized. rs didnt say otherwise

thanks for the reply

It depends on the value when it comes to polarized caps. Electrolytic and Tantalum caps are usually polarized. We would need more details about the Mod to be able to tell you. Specifically what cap did you change, and what did you change it to?

the originals are np canister caps 1uf. the mod says to put in metal film caps 1uf. specifically these http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102515.

this is the mod. im at the last part. http://www.musicianshotline.com/archive/monthly/pedal_power/0603.htm

Replacing the polarized electros with the metal film caps is a common TS mod, yes it can be done easily with those metal film caps.  Those are the Keeley mods.  The metal films can go in in either direction, they are non-polarized.
