I have VTL5C2, so thought I ask before I order the VTL5C3's for the optoisolator/Vactrol...
What other models worked as well as the original?
thanx

Look up the data sheets; if they just have different turn-on/turn-off times you'll probably be fine, but if they have vastly different resistances, it won't work right. My guess is that it would work fine.
You can use just about anything as the LED/LDR in the Ugly Face. Even, roll your own by shrink wrapping discreet LED and LDR together.
The envelope may sound a little different depending on the part. I wouldn't worry about the differences too much the effect will still work.

Thanx much for the info. Unfortunately, I'm too much of a novice to tell how large of a difference would make a significant change in the Uglyface's sound...though I'll definitely do some more research.

I was thinking about doing that since I used similar things in circuit bending...but I was trying to start with something close to the original, then possibly mod...
thanx
I wouldn't worry about it too much. The Ugly Face will work with just about every LED/LDR combo. If you have a selection of LDRs to choose from test them all. If you have VTL5x just use it. I bet it will work fine.
